Families are flocking to the area not only for the quality homes in this up-and-coming community but for the many activities conveniently located near the neighbourhood. Take a look at some of the things you can easily do when your family lives in Beacon Heights.

1. Get in Touch with Nature at Nose Hill Park

Anyone who likes wide, open spaces will love getting away from it all with a hike at Nose Hill Park. The park is a protected grassland with hiking trails designed to minimize human impact on the natural beauty. You’ll be able to see native vegetation and even some wildlife if you’re lucky. With certain designated off-leash areas, your dog will be able to run freely.

The whole family can enjoy getting active together with a membership to the Melcor YMCA. Parents will love the child minding program that allows for some alone time to work out and it’s affordably priced. The centre also has a pool for swimming and fitness classes for the entire family. Some are child-only classes, but others are appropriate for everyone. This is a great way to bond together. If you need it, you can also consider this location for daycare and preschool.

3. Hit the Books at the Public Library

There are two branches of the Calgary library system close to Beacon Heights – the Country Hills Library and the Judith Umbach Library. Both offer quiet study spaces, free Wi-Fi, and separate children and teen rooms. Check out books and videos to bring home, or look for special programs throughout the year. For instance, the libraries run the Youth Read program throughout the summer months where kids can compete in reading challenges and are eligible to win prizes.

4. Practice Your Swing at a Golf Course

Golf lovers won’t have to go far to enjoy their sport. The Country Hills Golf Club is a member-owned golf club with two pristine and challenging courses. The Hamptons Golf Club also has an attractive course, and the club is making a few changes to the course to make it even more competitive. These two nearby locations allow you to play a quick game without feeling like you have to make a weekend of it.

5. Join a Team at the Foothills Athletic Park

If you’re the sporty type – or you have kids who are – you’ll probably be making frequent stops at the Foothills Athletic Park. It has an Ultimate Frisbee course, soccer fields, a little league field, and a track. Many community-based sports teams meet here for practice and competitions, but if the fields are free, you can use them with your family and friends. It’s also close to the Foothills Aquatic Centre with a pool and the Father David Bauer and Norma Bush Arenas with their hockey rinks, so there is something for everyone.

Whether you’re looking for a gift or need to stock up on the basics, the Creekside Shopping Centre has a variety of shops. You can drop the kids off for extra tutoring at the Kumon Learning Centre while you do the grocery shopping at the Co-Op or relax at the Serene Escapes Day Spa. There are plenty of food choices here as well, including pizza, sushi, Chinese, and Indian food.

7. Catch A Flick

If you’re an avid movie lover, you won’t have to travel far from home to see the latest blockbusters. Resting just a 10-minute drive up Country Hills Boulevard, are the Landmark 16 Cinemas. With several restaurants nearby, dinner and a movie has never been so easy!

The longer you live in Beacon Heights, you’ll start to find those little nooks that become your favourite spot and this list can certainly help you get started. With the wide variety of amenities surrounding this great new community, you’re guaranteed to find fun for the whole family.
