Calgary passes a motion to waive green cart fees for 2017, in order to allow residents the chance to embrace the idea of an organic composting program. The program which is set to launch in Spring 2017 will no longer require Calgary homeowners to pay the fee themselves.
Coun. Joe Magliocca spearheaded the idea with Mayor Naheed Nenshi’s full cooperation along with a unanimous council vote.
While the details of where the city will pull the funds from isn’t set, council will discuss this in a later city council meeting. Calgary’s Fiscal Stability Reserve fund could be one way to ensure the program is covered until January 2018 when residents will pick up the tab.
